Norwalk has become the center of relief efforts locally. The United Haitian-American Society is based in Norwalk and has put together a plan for how Connecticut can help out.
Checks and money order can be made to Haiti Relief Fund of Fairfield County. Cash is also acceptable. The following local banks are accepting donations:

• People’s United Bank- Haiti Relief Fund of Fairfield County
• Webster bank- Haiti Relief Fund of Fairfield County
• Fairfield County Bank- Haiti Relief Fund of Fairfield County
Volunteers trained as nurses or doctors are also needed. Jet Blue and American Airlines is offering to fly any volunteers to Haiti free of charge.

Texting Relief
By texting the word “HAITI” to 90999, $10 will be donated to Red Cross International Relief. One hundred percent of the money will be donated to the Red Cross. Standard text messaging rates may apply and the $10 will be charged to your phone bill, AT&T said.
